Title: Civil Rights Movement Response
Introduction
The Letter from Birmingham City Jail or The Letter from Birmingham Jail was written by Martin Luther Jr., an American civil rights leader as an open missive on April 16th, 1963. This letter is so called since King wrote it from the city jail where he had been incarcerated in Birmingham city, following the campaigns he held within this same city alongside planned non violent public protest. This protest had been conducted by the Alabama Christian Movements for Civil/ Human Rights and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. All these movements and rallies were efforts antithetical towards racial discrimination and segregation which at the time seemed to have been condoned and sanctioned by the downtown retailers in Birmingham and the Birmingham city governments.
